“Keep Going”: Inside the Hustle and Heart of Sammie G, Colorado's Genre-Bending Music Maverick

What do you get when you blend the soul of New Orleans, the cool air of Colorado Springs, and the tenacity of a dreamer who refuses to quit? You get Sammie G — hip-hop artist, producer, future author, and your new favorite genre-blender.

From spitting rhymes at age 8 to taking over Colorado airwaves before he could legally vote, Sammie G (born Samuel Rashaad Gordon) has been on a mission to carve out his own lane. And trust—he’s doing it with flair, heart, and a whole lot of hustle. “I was surrounded by music my whole life,” Sammie G recalls of his early days in New Orleans. “Watching Lil Wayne, the Hot Boys, going to second lines, battle of the bands — music was everywhere. It just felt natural.” And while his Louisiana roots gave him rhythm, it was Colorado Springs — not exactly known as a music mecca — that gave him room to expand.

Moving from a predominantly Black city to a predominantly white town could’ve made some artists shrink. But not Sammie. “Being in Colorado Springs actually gave me more freedom,” he explains. “I felt like I could explore outside of just hip-hop — get into house music, pick up the guitar, start singing. It shaped my whole sound.” That sound? A genre-fluid, emotionally rich blend of hip-hop, pop, and feel-good storytelling that’s earned him comparisons to Donald Glover. It's a comparison he’s heard plenty — and one he embraces, with a smile and a bit of side-eye. “People say we look alike, which I’m not too crazy about,” he laughs, “but when it comes to the creativity, I take it as a compliment. He’s a genius. And that’s the goal — to be more than just a rapper. I want to win a Golden Globe, write a movie, win a Grammy. I want it all.”

And he’s not just talking. He’s putting in the work. Early in his career, he had a breakthrough moment when local radio began spinning his music almost nightly. “People might’ve seen me around,” he says, “but when they heard me in their car—before even hooking up their Bluetooth—that changed everything. It made folks take me seriously.” But Sammie isn’t one to just bask in the past. His vision for the future is crystal clear. He’s writing a book called Keep Going: The Mindset, a self-help guide aimed at creatives, entrepreneurs, and anyone who’s ever felt like giving up. “It’s about pushing through the tough times,” he shares. “Something I think every artist—and honestly, every person—needs to hear.”

The grind doesn’t stop there. Sammie G is building a movement. There’s the Keep Going album trilogy (the third installment is in the works), Keep Going merch (yes, there are hats and tees), and an innovative new approach to music support. Through a platform called Even.biz, fans can support him directly by making an offer for his music — whether it’s a dollar, $100, or more. “Spotify and Apple Music aren’t paying artists what they deserve,” Sammie says. “With Even, people can buy the art straight from the artist. It’s community-building. It’s the future.”

And for all the aspiring artists out there dreaming of success? Sammie keeps it real. “Get a job outside the creative field that gives you enough money to invest back into your craft. The quicker artists get their money right, the more creative freedom they’ll have. You won’t be stuck in bad deals, you’ll have better resources, and people will respect how seriously you take your art. Let that sink in. Because if there’s one thing Sammie G makes clear—it’s not about chasing fame, it’s about building a legacy. Slowly. Intentionally. And always with purpose.

So whether you’re vibing to his tracks, reading his upcoming book, or rocking Keep Going merch, just know: Sammie G isn’t stopping anytime soon. He’s just getting started.

Follow Sammie G on all platforms, stream his music, and support him directly at Even.biz. Because real art deserves real support.
