RIO DE JANEIRO, September 24, 2026. RDC Magazine brought the energy of NFL Week into the heart of Rio nightlife on Wednesday evening with a celebration at MIA in Barra da Tijuca, an event shaped around football, music, international culture and the enduring legacy of Black college football.
The September 23 gathering brought together fans, guests, creatives and members of Rio’s entertainment community for a night that moved beyond the game itself. With hip-hop, funk and Afrobeats setting the tone, the celebration placed American football inside a distinctly Rio atmosphere: social, stylish, musical and global.
A NIGHT BUILT AROUND LEGACY
At the center of the evening was a tribute to the impact of the Black College Football Hall of Fame and the 2026 class of inductees — a group whose stories connect Historically Black Colleges and Universities to generations of excellence in professional football.
The celebration placed special emphasis on Jimmy Smith of Jackson State, Nick Collins of Bethune-Cookman and Eddie Robinson Jr. of Alabama State. Each represents a different chapter of the HBCU-to-professional-football story: elite performance, leadership, longevity and the continued influence of Black college football on the wider game.
For RDC Magazine, that legacy was an important part of the NFL Week conversation. The night was not simply about who takes the field next; it was also about recognizing the people and institutions that helped shape football culture long before the spotlight arrived in Rio.

The Black College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026 was officially inducted earlier this year, with Jimmy Smith, Nick Collins and Eddie Robinson Jr. among the six honorees. Their recognition reflects the historic role HBCUs have played in producing athletes, coaches, leaders and voices who have transformed American football.
