Keep Going: Trusting God When the Road Gets Hard
You will not always have someone cheering you on. Sometimes faith means finding the courage to take the next step anyway.
There are seasons when the hardest voice to quiet is the one inside your own head. It tells you what you cannot do, reminds you of every disappointment, and uses yesterday’s pain to make tomorrow feel impossible. Add difficult circumstances, distractions, or people who do not believe in you, and even a dream you truly want can begin to feel out of reach. But nothing meaningful is promised to be easy.
That is when perseverance becomes a decision. Believe in yourself even before the encouragement arrives. Yes, we all need people who remind us, ‘You’ve got this.’ Yet when the room is silent and the support is missing, you must sometimes become your own cheerleader. Take one step, then another. What happened before does not determine what is possible next.
That strength comes from keeping God at the center. When I pray, I ask not only for doors to open, but for wisdom to recognize which doors are mine. We must learn to listen for His direction and pray for discernment. Not every voice that offers help carries good intentions; some people see your potential and want to benefit from it without walking in truth with you. Watch actions, not promises, and let the lessons of experience sharpen your judgment.
If you have trusted the wrong person or made a choice you regret, do not spend the rest of your journey punishing yourself. Learn, adjust, and try another way. A setback is not always a stop sign. Sometimes it is God’s invitation to slow down, see more clearly, and move differently. You cannot decide that every new opportunity will fail simply because something in the past did.
Trust the process, but keep listening. Ask God whether the path you are pursuing is truly for you, and be willing to follow His answer. He remains our provider, way maker, peacekeeper, and miracle worker. Even in seasons you do not understand, seek the lesson in what He allows the good and the difficult. There is growth in both.
Not every blessing will arrive in a form you recognize, and not every disappointment is a punishment. Sometimes God opens doors to lead you into your purpose, and sometimes He allows doors to close to protect you from what you cannot yet see.
This is where the Spirit of Discernment becomes essential.
Discernment is more than knowing the difference between right and wrong. It is the spiritual wisdom to recognize what is of God, what is merely a distraction, and what may appear good but is not meant for you. It is learning to distinguish between an opportunity and an assignment, between a delay and a denial, between a test of faith and a warning to change direction.
Not everything that feels good is good for your spirit, and not everything that challenges you is working against you. Some situations come to strengthen your character, others to reveal the intentions of those around you, and some to teach you the value of boundaries, patience, surrender, and obedience.
